Step 1 Revision
1.Revise the words such as :library, restaurant bank supermarket street pay phone park avenue center bridge mail there near
2.Revise the statement sentence structure There is a ---.
Using the phrase post office to say:There is a post office.
Emphasis the structure there be is used to express the existance.
Practice the structure using the other names of the places such as library, restaurant several times.Then choose some students to say the sentences aloud .
3.Revise the question sentence of There be.
Ask: Who can tell me how to ask if there is a post office near here.
If they don’t know how to say it or don’t remember it clearly,tell them what they need to do: ①Put the word is before the word there,
②Change the first letter of the word “is” into capital letter,the first letter of the word “there” into small one,
③Put a question mark at the end of the sentence.
E.g: Is there a post office near here?
Practice the sentence structure with the names of the places such as hotel library several times.
Answer the questions using the short answer Yes, there is./No, there isn’t.
Note :Don’t use Yes, it is./No, it isn’t.to replace the right answer.
Practice the Ask and Answers several times.
Then choose some students to demonstrate the dialogues in front of the class.
Step 2 Presentation
The teacher draw a picture of a road on the blackboard first; then add places on it , at the same time,present the new words: across from next to between in front of behind.
Write the words on the blackboard.The teacher reads first, then the students read after the teacher. Repeat for several times. Choose two students to read the words aloud together.
Step 3 Presentation
①Show the small blackboard which has a map of some places to the class.
②Let the students say the names of the places together.
③The teacher help the students learn to ask these questions:
Where’s the post office?Where’s the supermarket ? Where’s the bank? Where’s the pay phone ? Where’s Center Street ?Where’s Fifth Avenue ?Where’s Green Street ?
④Summary the structure :Where is (the)+place name?
Note: The article the should not be used before the specialize nous.
Eg.Where is the park/library ? Where is
⑤Get the students to repeat the sentences several times.
Try to remember the
⑥Let the students say some similar questions. Correct if necessary.
⑦Then help the students learn to answer the questions above:
It’s across from the …. It’s in front of the …. It’s behind the ….It’s between the…and the … ⑧Summary the structure: It’s preposition +the +Ordinary nous./It’s preposition +Specialize nous.
Note: The use of the article the is the same like it in the question sentences.
⑨Pracice the answers to the questions above:
First the teacher practices the answers with some students.Then the sudents work,the teacher offers help.
⑩At last choose some students to ask and answer questions, combining the items on the small blackboard..
Step 4
Pairwork to ask and answer questions about the places in
Step 5 Activity:
Who is the best ?
①Hand out some cards to most of the students, which there are names of some places in them.
②The students with the cards show the cards to the whole class.
③One of them asks a question with the name of the place on his/her card, such as Where’s the restaurant?
④The other students answer like this: It’s behind the pay phone./It’s near the park./It’s in front of the hotel.etc.
Practice the dialogue in this way as many times as possible.See who can answer the most questions correctly. Say:×× is the best.
Congratulate to the best student.
Step 6
Choose some students to read the sentences in
Then tell them to work in pairs.Translate the sentences into Chinese.Match the sentences with the pictures. Ask the students to write each number in the box.Check the answers.
Step 7. 2b. Listening.
First look at the contents in 2b, Then ask the students to listen to the tape in 2b.
Play the tape for the first time, students only listen.
Play the tape for the second time,students fill in the blanks with the words in the box.
Check the answers.
Step 8 Game:
Guess Who A is.
According to the real information:
①One student says : A is in front of ---(the name of a student),then asks the other students to guess who A is and answer: A is ---.
②Another student says: A is behind---(the name of a student), then asks another two students to guess who A is and answer:A is ---at the same time.
③See who can answer more correctly and use the less time.
④Practice the game with some more students.
Then the teacher can suggest making the game more difficult.
①A student says: A is near --(the name of a student), in front of---(the name of a different student), then asks the other students to guess who A is and answer: A is ---.
②Another student says: A is behind---(the name of a student), next to ---(the name of a different student), then chooses another two students to guess who A is and answer: A is ---at the same time.
③See who can answer more correctly and use the less time.
④Tell the students to go on the game after class.
Step 9 Task
Put the pictures on the right place.
①Draw a picture of a house on the blackboard.
②Show six cards to the students, get them to know there is a picture of one person or one thing on each card-------a girl on the first card;a bird on the second card;a tree on the third card;a dog on the fourth card;a bridge on the fifth card;a fish on the sixth card.
When showing any card to the students, let them say each in English.
③Choose a student to stand in front of theblackboard.
④When the teacher says any word of the person or the thing on the card in English,the student standing in front of the blackboard tries to choose the right card to show to the students, the rest of the students can only watch,they mustn’t offer help to him/her.
⑤Then the teacher says the following sentences slowly one by one:
There is a tree in front of the house.There is a bird in the tree.There is a dog behind the house. There is a bridge between the dog and the tree. There is a fish under the bridge.There is a girl across from the dog.
⑥The student in front of the blackboard tries to put the right card on the right place of the blackboard according to what the teacher says.
⑦After he/she finishes doing it, ask the rest students to say if he has done a good job, then choose some students to correct the work.
Step 10 Summary
Say:This class we have revised place nouns , sentence structure Is there a ---?Yes, there is /No, there isn’t.We have learned some prepositions, and some sentence structures such as Where is the ---?It’s on/across from /next to the---/between the ---and the ---.
Ask the students to read the contents of the Grammar Focus quickly, then see who can recite the most of them.
Homework
1. Ask students to describe the positions of the places in their own county.
2.Design their ideal county, draw a picture of the ideal county, write the instructions beside the picture.
